(Opinion) Does it really pay to be honest?

(Opinion) Does it really pay to be honest?

Honesty they say. . .is the Best Policy. Is it?

Answers to this simple yet, thought provoking question may vary depending on your environment and upbringing.

I have encountered many people who had been dishonest in their professional and private lives.

I have equally met godly and honest individuals who seemed not to be part of us here. As in, honest individuals who display unimaginable level of honesty that you may stop to look around you to be sure if you are in this same corrupt and nonsensical earth of ours.

Most of them do not get rewarded for this rare trait in todays world where everyone, both young and old just want to Hammer!

Mr Sunny Anderson Osiebe is one of them.

– A man who got an opportunity to Hammer and transform the immediate and extended generational genealogical poverty from his Clan.

– A Man who got a free and careless Bank Transfer to Japa to any Oyimbo destination of his choice. Rather, chose to locate and return a whopping 98million Naira back to the owner!

He did not claim ownership and entitlement with the general perception of ‘na god catch am’. ‘afteral, na our Tax-payers money’.

He got it returned to the last kobo!

This rare act of Honesty by Mr Sunny Anderson Osiebe who returned N98 million paid into his Account in this time, deserve a National Merit Award accompanied by a National Standing Ovation!

Yes ke!

A Delta Boy?!

From a state ravaged by Yahoo Boys!

It is not enough that His Excellency, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and the Vice Presidential Candidate of the PDP gave him an Award Plague with nothing (Financial) apart from the memorable pictures taken at the ceremony to honor their Honest son.

How Mr Anderson even got back to his lodge to pass the night or whether he even had pocket money to eat Fufu and Onugbu was no longer the Business of the Governor. ‘I will see you later’ was all he got down to the time of this write-up!

I hereby call for a review of our reward system in Nigeria.

The National Honors and its selection process must be revisited. Else, we have ourselves to blame with the rampaging ‘Yahoo Yahoo’ mentality of our teeming youths.

How marvelous it would be to have a Man like Mr Osiebe as a neighbor.

Imagine leaving your doors opened while at work without the fear of being robbed!

What a boom to life and pleasure it would be to be able to trust everyone and to be trusted!

But all of these starts with the

individual, does it not?

Our personal effort comes first.

The benefits of being honest cannot be overemphasized. Dishonest individuals who thought they were too smart till they were caught and then lost respect, prestige and honor forever are desperate to get these virtues back but the entire wealth in this world cannot give them these things as they are not sold in the Market.

May we be rewarded and celebrated for our acts of honesty as we strive for a better and corruption-free Nigeria.
