A philanthropist Mr Siddiqui Muhammad Saad has donated two sets of cricket equipment to Girls Aspire Sports Initiative (GASI), an NGO based in Abuja.
Saad, who is a cricket fan witnessed the maiden FCT Secondary Schools Cricket Competition in Abuja last month where Girls Aspire sponsored a female team- who became champions of the event.
Impressed by the outcome of the event, Saad decided to donate more cricket equipment to the NGO to enable the organisation empower and mentor more girls through sport.
The philanthropist, represented by Mr Taiwo Oriss, secretary general of the Nigeria Cricket Federation presented the equipment which comprise of four bats, two wickets and eight balls to the NGO’s Founder Mrs Ijeoma Okigbo.
Presenting the equipment to Mrs Okigbo, Oriss lauded the effort of the donor for contributing to the growth of the game at the grassroot while appreciating Girls Aspire for bringing the sport to female students.
Mrs Okigbo however assured Mr Saad and the NCF on the judicious use of the equipment.
Meanwhile, Girls Aspire activities have been suspended following the country’s directive on healthy guidelines in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
