Tijani Babanginda has called for a total change of football philosophy in Nigeria urging the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation to embrace the Dutch Total football style as a way to readdressing the drop in Nigeria recent football performances at international championships.

Speaking exclusively with Babanginda who is so bothered about the performances of the various National teams and club sides at recent championships maintained that the panacea to solving the problem is to introduce another brand of football that Nigeria players can easily adapt to.

The President of the National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers, NANPF noted further that considering the quantity of football talents that abound in Nigeria, he argued that the Dutch Football will be best suited for them.

“I am so convinced that the Dutch Total football is what we need right now in Nigeria. It is a style of football that will be well suited for Nigeria players because they are very skillful and that brand of football is very good for countries with talented players like ours.

“This brand of football that we are playing now is no longer working and we must change it. The world is evolving and we have to evolve with it. We cannot continue to stay in one place and think we will get a different result. Look at what Cameroon played at the last Nations cup, it was the Dutch football, though they did not make it to the final but if they keep up with it they will get use to it and you will see the result with time,” he said.

The former Super Eagles winger also maintained that the Dutch Total football will help reduce the pressure put on coaches by administrators to feature their players stressing that only the good and skilful players would survive the training.

“The thing about this style of football is that lazy and not too good players cannot hide again. This method will expose them and the era of administrators forcing players on coaches would be over. And if they have to do that they must be convinced that the players they are sending are good,” he said.
