President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a six-month extension of service for the newly appointed Head of Service of the Federal Capital Territory Civil Service Commission, Mr. Udo Samuel Atang.

This was made known in a letter signed by Chidi Amadi, Chief of Staff to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, dated 26th March 2024.

The letter as addressed to the FCT Head of the Civil Service, Amadi said the extension of Atang’s service would take effect from Wednesday, March 27, 2024, which also marked his 60 years of age.

According to the letter, the extended service would give the new Head of Service the opportunity to stabilise processes for the restructuring of the FCT Administration, occasioned by the inauguration of the FCT-CSC.

The letter read, “I am directed to refer to the above subject matter and to inform you that His Excellency, the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has graciously approved the extension of your service for a period of six months with effect from Wednesday, March 27, 2024 when you would have attained the mandatory age of 60 years”.

“The extension of your service is premised on the need to stabilise and consolidate the ongoing processes to reposition the administrative structure of the FCT Administration occasioned by the recent inauguration of the FCT Civil Service Commission,” the letter said.

Abuja Digest reports that Mr. Atang, alongside nine Permanent Secretaries, Chairman, and Commissioners of the FCT Civil Service Commission, were sworn in on Monday, March, 18, by the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf, represented by Justice Sylvanus Oriji.
