President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, removing the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, from the Federal Executive Council (FEC). The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and signed by George Akume. According to the statement, Edun has been directed to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has been elevated to the position of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State in the ministry.
In the same reshuffle, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, was also asked to step down. He is to hand over to the Minister of State pending the confirmation of a new appointee. The statement further announced Muttaqha Rabe Darma as ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the Housing and Urban Development Ministry. The Presidency directed that all handing-over processes be completed on or before the close of business on April 23, 2026. Explaining the rationale behind the changes, Akume said the reshuffle was aimed at strengthening coordination within government and enhancing the delivery of economic policies under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He added that the President exercised his constitutional powers in effecting the changes and expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service, wishing them success in their future endeavours. The statement also noted that further adjustments within the cabinet remain a possibility as the administration continues efforts to reposition governance and improve service delivery.
