It was gathered from a reliable source that Musa stated this during a press conference ahead of the Super Eagles’ opening fixture against Egypt on Tuesday. According to Musa, he will participate in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar if Nigeria qualifies. However, he would retire before the next AFCON.

His first AFCON was in South Africa in 2013 and Nigeria won it, while his second appearance was in Egypt and they won the bronze.” The 29-year-old has featured in two World Cups, and he is currently Nigeria’s highest goalscorer in the competition. In the course of his playing for Nigeria, he has netted 16 goals including four at different World Cups.

In the course of the press conference, Ahmed Musa who is the national team’s most-capped player, also said he has charged his teammates to win the the2021 AFCON as a parting gift for him “I have spoken to the boys that this is the only gift you can give to me because this is my last AFCON. It would be a good idea that before Musa finally retires from international football, he can help lead the team to win their fourth continental title (AFCON) in the ongoing tournament. As the captain of the team, all he needs to do is to maintain a positive attitude and motivate his teammates to victory. Nigeria’s squad is filled with talented youngsters who can defeat any team in the tournament. A little bit of effort, teamwork, and organization will help the team to pull through. Nigeria who is in group D alongside Egypt, Sudan, and Guinea-Bissau will be taking on the Pharaohs of Egypt on January 11th.
