The Nigeria Archery Federation (NAFED) has confirmed that all is set for the 2026 National Archery Open Championship and training programme, scheduled to begin on Monday, April 20, at Package ‘B’ of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

The week-long event, which will run until Saturday, April 25, is expected to attract over 113 athletes, according to the latest technical report released by the federation.

Organisers disclosed that the programme will commence with intensive training sessions from Monday, April 20 to Wednesday, April 22, ahead of the main championship, which will take place from Thursday, April 23 to Saturday, April 25.

President of the federation, Mohammed Baba Abdullahi, made the disclosure during an emergency executive meeting held on Saturday, April 18. He expressed confidence in the federation’s preparedness and called on board members and stakeholders to work collectively to ensure a successful outing.

Abdullahi, who also serves as Deputy Secretary General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, commended the technical committee for its round-the-clock efforts in organising the event. He also lauded the media committee for its performance, while urging them to sustain and improve their efforts.

Meanwhile, the federation has assured participating athletes and officials of adequate and affordable accommodation throughout the duration of the programme. The transport and accommodation committee, led by NAFED Vice President, Ambassador Augustine Chigbolu, has already secured lodging arrangements for teams arriving in Abuja.

The technical committee further stated that the championship is open to both youth athletes under 18 and adult competitors aged 18 and above, across male and female categories. Competitions will be held over distances of 15, 30, 50, and 70 metres.

Only equipment compliant with international standards—including Barebow, Recurve, and Compound bows, as well as approved World Archery gear—will be permitted for use during the championship.
